This summer, twelve EGRHS students participated in FutureSolve25, a program that connects students with the local medical company BAMF Health and provides them with a six-week paid internship and three credits through Ferris State University.
Students teamed up with peers from other local schools to tackle real-world challenges using the power of design thinking. Culminating project presentations focused on meaningful solutions from streamlining IT systems and enhancing employee onboarding to developing creative marketing strategies. Along the way, students not only earned college credits but also gained hands-on experience in an innovative healthcare environment by working side by side with professionals to turn their ideas into future action. Through business and industry partnerships such as this one, our students are able to gain real-world experiences with cutting-edge organizations right here in West Michigan!
If you have a high school student who may be interested in participating next year, watch the high school newsletter for the 2025-2026 application in early spring 2026.
Dear East Grand Rapids High School Athletic Families,
For the 2025-2026 school year, the East Grand Rapids Athletic Department is continuing its partnership with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students electronically. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves information from season to season and year to year, meaning you will never need to enter the same information twice. FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible for each of your students, saving you time.
You may review your data at any time to verify that it is current. You will be required to sign your forms once per year and after any update.
Online Athletic Registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now open.
In addition to registering and signing the student and parent forms in FinalForms, Students will be required to complete the following before participating in in-season activities.
-
Eligibility
-
To be eligible to participate in athletics at East Grand Rapids High School, a student must pass four (4) classes in their previous semester. Any student who is participating and has less than a 2.0 grade point average will be required to attend at least one hour a week of a tutorial session during the season they participate. Please contact the Athletic Office if you have any questions at (616) 235-7593. 9th graders are granted initial eligibility and will be a part of grade checks throughout the academic year to ensure eligibility.

Concussions
-
State law in Michigan requires parents and students to be provided educational materials regarding concussions and the risk of students participating in athletics. A signed acknowledgement will be required to be on file in our offices. This information will be provided in the online student handbook and will also be available on our website under "Forms". Students and parents will have completed this during online registration. If your son and/or daughter attended East Grand Rapids last year, your information is on file with us. If you are new to the school district, this form will be in the HS enrollment packet.

ImPact Baseline Testing
-
All students must have an ImPact Concussion Baseline Test on file in order to begin practicing or tryout out for their respective sport(s) . If a student has a concussion or suspects to have a concussion during their sporting season, the ImPact Test will be used as a tool for determining return to play protocol by our Athletic Trainer, Courtney VanDeWege.
-
-
*All incoming 9th and 11th graders and anyone that has not previously been tested, must take the ImPact Test.
-
*10th & 12th graders do NOT need to take the test IF they had tested the previous year.
-
*The ImPact Test expires every two years.
-
Student athletes will be taking the online test from home, which will take about 20 minutes. To request a one-time link for the ImPact Test, please email Courtney VandeWege or Wende Johnson. This test must be completed prior to their first day of practice/tryouts.
As a reminder, an updated physical will be needed dated 4/15/2025 or later. Your physical can be uploaded directly to FinalForms once an account has been created.
Please click on the Parent Playbook to get started in FinalForms. If you require any support during the process, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Use Support.”
Registration is now open. Please visit FinalForms and follow the prompts to create your account, then create your students and sign your forms.
Thank you for your assistance in streamlining the paperwork process in the East Grand Rapids Athletic Department.
Sincerely,
Chris Zylstra
Director of Athletics
You wouldn’t know it to look at him, nor would you guess it based on his excellent grades, but Sam Greenway spent much of his senior year in pain he likens to “glass shards flowing through your veins.”
The recent East Grand Rapids High School graduate has sickle cell anemia, a disorder marked by misshapen, rigid red blood cells, which stick together and block the flow of oxygen to the rest of the body. This results in fatigue, inflammation, infection and extreme pain, which is the symptom Sam has struggled with the most.
