author Christine Soontornvat speaking to kids

Last week, students had the opportunity to meet author Christine Soontornvat, a three-time Newbery Honoree, thanks to a grant from the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation. In 2021, Soontornvat became the first author ever to receive Newbery Honors for both fiction and nonfiction in the same year. Thanks to the Foundation, Soontornvat visited all three elementary schools and shared her work and process with extremely enthusiastic groups of students. Thank you, Foundation donors, for making this amazing opportunity available to our students!

Service Academy Nght

Representative Hillary Scholten’s District Office is excited to invite your students to the upcoming Service Academy Night on October 15, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gerald R. Ford Museum. This event is a fantastic opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the military through one of the United States Service Academies.

Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be present to provide information, answer questions, and discuss the application process. This is an invaluable chance for students to learn more about these prestigious institutions and the opportunities they offer.
